Should I prep my skin before exercising?

Cleansing and moisturizing your skin is always a good idea. But, in all honesty, it’s always more important to cleanse right after than before exercising. Oils, bacteria, and sweat produced during your workout could potentially break you out. Let’s say you go for a run in the mornings, the crucial prepping step is to always apply sunscreen. Premature aging of the skin is a result of sun damage, so whatever you do, don’t leave your house without sun protection. Using a lightweight moisturizer will help to retain the water in the skin. To solve these two problems at once, pick a light day cream with ( at least ) SPF 20.

Is it safe to wear makeup while exercising?

It is always a great idea to give your skin some time to breathe. So if you’re able to enjoy a decent amount of anonymity or privacy where you exercise (don’t know anyone at the gym or workout at home) it is always best not to use any foundation while exercising. As a general rule, you can get away with eye makeup and lipstick. We understand some people may have severe acne, dark circles or other skin concerns and would panic at the idea of leaving the house without makeup. But when it comes to evening out your skin or covering out imperfections while exercising it is best to keep it light.  Simply use a bit of concealer and – if needed – tinted moisturizer or mineral powder may give you just enough coverage to feel confident while still allowing your skin to oxygenate a bit.

What should my post-workout skincare routine be like?

After exercising the first thing you need to do is drink plenty of water to rehydrate your skin. Next step of your post-workout skincare routine should be to gently cleanse your skin to remove oil, toxins and sweat.
